About Kimberley

Kimberley has a Bachelor of Fine Art, majoring in Ceramics, a Post Graduate Diploma in Education and Diploma in Art Therapy. Out of University she worked as a studio potter creating commissions for clients and retail outlets and as an Artist in Residence for schools and City Council’s. Kimberley worked in Europe and Australia as a Fashion stylist and the US Film industry as a Director's assistant before settling down raising kids and becoming an Art teacher. While teaching art from home during Melbourne’s 2020 lockdown, Kimberley felt the time was right to become a full-time creative again. She makes a range of wheel-thrown and hand-built ceramic pieces for her shop in South Yarra and client commissions. She holds private ceramic classes and workshops and as a qualified art therapist sees clients at her home studio. Kimberley also paints and draws which she often incorporates into her highly decorated ceramic pieces. Making luxury candles was her side hustle over lockdown and quickly became an incorporated part of her ceramics practice. Ethical premium Australian products are used to make a range of beautiful candles in glass or in her ceramic vessels that can be brought back instore for a refill.

MANNIX is an urban jungle that offers indoor plants, hand-made ceramics, hand-poured soy candles and ceramic workshops. I am a ceramic artist with over 20 years’ experience and pivoted from Art teaching to making and retail when I opened the store in March 2021.

My little business demonstrates that localism, community connection and stocking a range of beautiful, ethical and hand-made product has been strengthened as a response to the pandemic with people wanting to support small business and appreciating quality.

The shops aesthetic and range of product creates a calming environment where people like to pause, so we started selling Genovese Coffee so people can sit inside or out, tucked into a side-street in the leafy boutique area of South Yarra, in Melbourne. I've been so encouraged by the enthusiastic feedback and support of individuals and interior designers who are looking for a unique gift, have become a collector, are purchasing for a client or ordering a special commission piece. Being from a creative arts background the opportunity to visually connect to an audience has been both encouraging and exciting. Now the retail space has had time to settle in, creating an online shopping experience to extend the audience for MANNIX ceramics and candles has felt like a natural progression.

Mannix is a celebration of passion and the handmade and the store also offers ceramic workshops. The online shop will act as a gallery and store with a growing range of ceramics and candles.

Stay well and stay kind,

Kimberley Mannix
